Understanding The Competitor Coupon Policy

    Here is a tip that can literally save you over $100 a month on groceries.  I have always shopped by what is on sale and planned my menu around that.  It can really save you a lot of money if you base your plans around what is actually on sale. 

I am not sure at what point I came to the realization that you could save big money on groceries.  But honestly, once I got it, I got it!

 As a mom of three boys all of which had started eating more and more the more they grew, that interested me. I had long joked about how I was going to back a truck up to Aldi or Save A Lot to purchase all the groceries I was going to need for those three boys, but honestly I never really thought about exactly what that would cost until they became teenagers. Once they become high school and college age, the grocery costs were through the roof!

 I started shopping much more carefully by the sales and this time I started clipping coupons from the newspaper and printing coupons online because a $1 or $2 high value coupon seemed worth it to me. I mean it all ads up big time!  I would go to my local Publix or Winn Dixie and when the receipt said I had saved as much as I spent, I was a pretty happy camper.  I literally did the happy dance! I mean think about it, if you spend $100 and save another $100, how cool is that?  

My hubby and I were pretty thrilled with ourselves. We started figuring out if we were careful we would have plenty of money to save for the extras like vacation!

Amazing how one little thing changes your perspective. 

This one simple fact saves me so much money and I hope it will save you lots of money too.

 Learn the coupon policy at every one of the stores you shop. 

What? That is all you are going to tell me? 

 Really? How does that help me? 

 Well, let me explain. 

Once you find out if your store accepts competitor coupons or if your store accepts a store coupon and a manufacturer coupon, you will understand how absolutely lifechanging this can be for you and your monthly grocery budget.  Some stores will price match with their competition and some don't.  Some stores offer double coupons although you won't see this in Florida as it is not allowed. 

 Some stores like Winn-Dixie require a card to get the discount, some don't. Whatever the deal is at your store, you will want to find out what it is. 

 Publix accepts competitor coupons and most of their stores have a sign stating which competitor coupons they accept. Winn-Dixie does not accept competitor coupons but they have an awesome fuelperks discount that saves you at the gas pump. Walmart price matches with the local stores so bring in your ad from that store and your coupons. 

 Once I learned about the different coupon policies, I found out that my local Publix store accepts coupons from Target, Winn-Dixie, Sweetbay & Save-A-Lot. I signed up for coupons online from Sweetbay and Save-A-Lot and made sure I was getting the flyers. I also went to Target.com and started printing out their coupons. Publix lets you use one store coupon and one manufacturer coupon together for each product. And, if it is a BOGO, buy one get one free deal, they let you use a manufactuer and store coupon for each item, even the free one. These facts changed my life. And so it began. Instead of saving the same as I spent, I started saving 70-80% more than what I spent. Be sure to check out all your local stores.  Don't be afraid to shop at more than one store.  I shop at three!  It might save you more than you think.
